Creating and Dreaming

I got to do a little fabric shopping last week and picked up a pattern I have been lusting after since I first saw it. It is a Vogue dress by Michael Kors.

At first glance it is a simple dress but when you check out the neckline - gorgeous-ness! I have yet to decide what fabric I am going to use for this dress but I can hardly wait to make it. It will be perfect for one of the summer weddings I have to attend.
I got this cool book by Cal Patch and have begun learning how to draft a pattern from scratch. It is so exciting! I made a simple skirt just using my own measurements. It fits perfectly. Taking all the measurements is a bit humbling but in the end I have a skirt that actually fits. I just have to hem it and then I will take some pictures.
I am also working on a little cap for the Wee Beast. I'm just making it up as I go. Hoping it turns out! x

Music!

Last weekend I was given some new music ( Thanks so much!). Two Fingers is a collaboration between Amon Tobin and Doubleclick. The self-titled debut came out in 2009 and featured artists such as Sway and Ce'Cile. The beats are decidedly drum and bass with a little bit of dub step in there and a lot of hip hop. It is a beautiful and gritty record that hasn't come off my mp3 player since I got it.
As I said, last weekend I was given the Instrumental album and a bootleg remix album. Both are freakin' fantastic! I have been listening to them non-stop. The remixes are definitely NSFW but you should have a listen to Backyard Betty. Wicked stuff!

Kasia - finally done!

I wrote a post about this skirt ages ago but just couldn't find the right buttons to make Kasia a wearable garment. Found the buttons, sewed them on and tada! Finished!

Navy cotton twill pencil skirt with bone buttons
Top: Topshop
Shoes: ??? but they are my favourite pair!

I had so many problems with this skirt. The first one was actually understanding the pattern. I have sewn for a long time and read many patterns but this one took me forever to wrap my head around. Then, I removed the gathers on the side panels. They just looked ridiculous. And finally, I ended up drafting my own pencil skirt and added the front bib from the Kasia pattern. There was much swearing involved. And a little whiskey.
But its done and I love it. Fits me perfectly.
The Wee Beast is away for a couple of days so I am playing catch up. Two posts in one day...I've impressed myself. Hope you are enjoying your day! x

Das Rad

I originally saw this short animated film on a late night CBC program called Z (pronounced the Canadian way, 'Zed'). I loved it. Hope you enjoy it too!

Listen

This is a mix of stuff that I love to listen to. It is very eclectic. A cautionary word - there are some lyrics which you may find offensive. If you are offended by the 'F' word or any of the others, you have been fairly warned.

Thoughts On Being A Mom

This morning I was woken up by my two sweeties, whispering ever so softly, "Happy Mother's Day!" I opened my eyes and there was my girl, holding a climbing rose for the garden and a beautiful card that she made for me. I was totally surprised! What a great way to wake up!

Being a mom is the most rewarding and at the same time, the hardest job I have ever had. I wouldn't trade it for anything though. I am constantly amazed by this little person that I made with my body. She is intelligent and funny and oh-so lovely.

I scooped her up in my arms this morning and with tears in my eyes (I couldn't help myself) told her that the day I became a mom was the best day of my life.

Happy Mother's day to all you Mommies out there. Hope you get some snuggles in! x

Raining Cats & Dogs

Actually it was hailing. Sideways. The weather has been very strange.
I have been battling (unsuccessfully) a horrendous cold. I have not been resting. I know I should be but there has just been a lot to keep up on. Today I am resting. It is noon and we are still in our pjs. I have promised a movie to the wee beast this afternoon. With popcorn.
There have been a few knitting projects languishing in my knitting basket:

This is a little cardigan for the Wee Beast using a lovely soya cotton yarn.

Icables! These are a pair of socks for me.

I think I will knit while the movie is on. Maybe. I might just take a nap. x
