And his name is....

...Shaun Thomas. The middle name is after our beloved father. My sister-in-law and I are going for a visit this afternoon. We are bringing food. Hospital food leaves much to be desired. I am so proud of my brother. He is so stoked and devoted. He is already such an amazing papa. *sigh*
So, here is the recipe for sweet potato pie that I made with the kidlet the other day. I have no idea where the recipe came from. It is scribbled on a scrap piece of paper I found in a recipe book I 'borrowed' from my dad. It is delicious. I don't like a super sweet pie so you may want to increase the amount of sugar.

Sweet Potato Pie

Crust:
1 c. all purpose flour
1/2 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. cold butter
4 Tbsp. (or more) ice water

Mix flours and salt. Rub butter into flour until a coarse meal forms. Stir in water and gently knead until mixture comes together. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for about an hour.

Filling:
2/3 c. packed brown sugar
1 Tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ground cloves
1/8 tsp. black pepper
3 eggs, lightly beaten
15 oz. sweet potato puree
1 c. light cream
Mix dry ingredients.

In separate bowl mix wet ingredients then combine with dry mixture. Stir until all the lumps are gone.
Prepare pie shell.

Pour sweet potato filling into unbaked pie shell and bake at 400 F for 45-50 min. The filling should be set but still jiggle in the center.

Enjoy!

I hope you are all having a wonderful day! x

Woohoo!

I am an auntie! My baby brother (youngest boy of three) has become a father today! His girlfriend gave birth to a baby boy at 7:40 this morning! I am so excited for them and can't wait to meet him.
This is a wee hat I made for the new arrival....

I will be back tomorrow with a recipe for sweet potato pie.

Sooooo.....

....this is what I actually did yesterday. It was just too beautiful to stay indoors.
We did get a lot accomplished yesterday - pretty much everything but the sewing. Why is it that the thing I love to do the most always ends up at the end of my to do list? I'm just too stubborn to admit that I am not able to do everything. However, when I put my mind to it I really can get a hell of a lot done.
Today we are baking a sweet potato pie ( Mmmmm...pie! ) and this afternoon - wait for it- sewing will happen!
Enjoy your day, lovelies! x

Sunny Sunday

Cute hoodie by Dear Pony

I am feeling a million times better than I did yesterday! Woohoo! I am going to be able to do this.
Today is catch-up day. Laundry, sewing, cleaning, closet kit installation....
Guess I had better get on with it! Have a lovely day! x

Spring Is Here?

So it is the middle of February and the weather is decidedly spring -like. Strange since it is usually still snowing at this time of the year.
Being that it feels like spring I decided to do a seasonal cleanse. I cannot believe that I have never done one before. I have worked in a health food store for almost six years and have managed to avoid the seasonal cleansing frenzy. I'm not sure how but it may be the extremely restrictive diet that you must adhere to. Having to cook for my husband and three year old makes that unrealistic. But I found one that enables you to continue to eat normally (lots of whole grains, fruits and veggies, small amounts of meat - pretty much how I eat anyway). You take lots of herbs and drink copious amounts of water. The kicker is that you aren't supposed to drink caffeinated beverages, aka. coffee. That, my friends, is not a good idea. I become a walking ogre without my morning cup of coffee so I have opted to keep it to one cup, unsweetened. That can't be so terrible?
I am committed to doing this for seven days which also doesn't seem terribly difficult. Except this morning I woke with an incredible headache. I hope I don't have to endure seven days of feeling awful. That is why I am doing the cleanse in the first place - to feel great. No pain, no gain, right?
Hope you are enjoying some of this beautiful weather and are getting a little sun on your faces! x

Sweet

I have finished some more little pouches. I have been having so much fun making these!

I am updating my Etsy shop today, if you want to hook yourself up with one. I have a couple of custom bags to make and then I will be doing some more pouches.
Oh! I finally saw 'Whip It!' and I loved it! I actually kind of want to do roller derby now. I work with woman who belongs to a roller derby team and she encouraged me to come and check out one of their practices to see if I am really into it. I think I will. x

Something Fishy

I just finished this lovely.....

I am totally smitten. I made this for a dear friend and am so proud of what I have created. It is made from a thick wool and I machine appliquéd sea vines and little sea horses. The horses are made from wool felt. This could be used as a make-up bag, a pencil case, a camera bag, a little clutch. I have already begun making more for my Etsy shop. Stay tuned!

I hope she loves it as much as I do.
